Jessica and Goose Party On During the Move

Jessica wants to know how soon Jerri and Bren will get a swing that is big enough for her.

Who's All Grown Up?!

Our little hummingbird baby will be leaving soon. Recently seen perching on the edge of the nest giving her wings some practice, our bird has been named Jessaphina. We hope a new hummingbird feeder will help to keep her close to home. Sadly Jessica is not taking the growth of Jessaphina well, and we expect quite a few tears on the day we come home and the nest is empty.

Hummer Baby Day 7

Baby Hummer is still a bit hairless looking, and still no open eyes, but is getting more active hopping around the nest. Mom Hummer seems less worried when we have a peek in the nest and leaves the nest for longer, we assume looking for food.

Houston, We Have Lift Off!

FINALLY! We have something in the nest besides a scary alien blob. We do only have one baby though, so not sure what happened to the second baby. But the one hummingbird finally now looks like a bird, although no open eyes and a shorter beak that I expected. The little guy is finally hoping about a bit and I'm just worried he's going to fall out of the very tiny nest. He seemed to be kicking it this afternoon in the unusually warm Los Angeles afternoon.

Hummer Babies Day 3

OK, it's day three and I'm starting to wonder if we have hummingbird babies, or some type of strange miniature alien. The blob is growing, but can't tell if it's one baby or two babies, and there are no chirping baby heads sticking up, which I am used to from other types of bird nests we've had in the garden. So, I continue to watch and wait. Hard to tell from a picture, since there is nothing to compare to, but the baby(ies) are tiny - the size of the tip of my pinky finger.

Hummer Babies Day 2

Well, I now have a great picture of two dark blobs in the nest. Both eggs are now open and there are two fuzzy 'things' in the nest. Mom Hummer seems to keep them squished down pretty tight and so far no sounds or little heads popping up looking for snacks. Will shoot a day-by-day progress and see when we can really get a good peek.

The First Hummer Baby

Here is the first shot of the first baby. You can see one egg is broken and a teeny baby hummingbird blob. To get the shot I am holding the camera above the nest and just guessing on location and focus.

Our Hummingbird Family

It is near impossible to get a picture of the momma hummingbird that decided to make a nest about 18" from our front door. As soon as the front door makes a sqeak, she's off. The second a car pulls into the driveway - gone. I did manage to shoot a few pictures through our dining room window, but she's in a dark corner, so these are the best shots I can manage without setting up lighting and completely freaking her out. She has two tiny eggs and we saw this morning that at least one egg has hatched. Will attempt some shots of the babies, but not sure how much luck I will have.

Young Obi Wan?

Ah, the force is strong in one so young. We said to her, these are not the strawberries you are looking for, and with a flick of her wrist, she brushed us aside as if our powers were naught. The Longnecker genes run strong and the future of Goose Chubwalker will be ripe with adversity. Local grown or Organic Strawberries - how will she choose? We can only hope she does not use her power to turn to the dark side.

Jessica & Best Friend Sydney

Jessica and her best friend Sydney at Page School graduation. In the fall Jessica will be ready to start First Grade.

Are These Not The Cutest Feet EVER!?

Some Early Art from a Future Genius

Two Ladies

Goose and Jessica are both dressed up for the big piano recital.

Jessica at Her Second Piano Recital

The ladies are looking so good and Jessica is very excited for her second performance with an audience. Luckily we had a good shoe outing for grown-up girl shoes 'with high heels' and special girlie socks with roses.

The New Fondue Set!

Friend Donna pulled a supreme birthday gift out of her . . . well . . . out of her hat, and suprised Carroll with a fondue set. WHO KNEW how badly we needed a fondue set, but let me tell you, we needed it BAD. So far, strawberries, blueberries and bananas have rocked the house, and set Carroll's diet back significantly.

Goose and Family at Breakfast

Damn isn't my daddy one fine looking man! But why does my Mommy always make funny faces in photographs? When I'm older I will wonder if her face was frozen that way.

Swimming With The Goose

Goose enjoys the good life at the Beverly Hills Country Club. Here she sends her peeps to fetch liquid refreshment for her subjects. Notice the second photo she again summons her subjects to do her bidding.

Minature Golf Field Trip

Jessica on her school field trip to Golf 'N Stuff in beautiful Norwalk . . . or was it Downey? Either way it was a special day full of bad cheese pizza, Skittles galore, and those special arcade games that require tokens a la Chuckie Cheese. Great fun was had by all, especially when the bus driver disappeared and was an hour late coming back to drive everyone home. Jessica was convinced that 'baddies' might have taken the bus driver, but mom worried that he might be in some tacky bar knocking back cold ones . . . so opted to drive Jessica back to school herself.

The Girl's Strike a Pose

A Look Around Jessica's School

May 2006, and here is Jessica's kindergarten classroom at Page School.

A Big Girl Locker . . .

Who Is The Student of the Month for May???

Oh I Think We Know the Answer!!

JESSICA NASH

Jessica's First Sleepover

Jessica's school has a few sleepovers a year, and Jessica decided she was ready to join in the fun. Of course, there was much preparation in the Nash household to make sure she was ready. One new Barbie suitcase - $19.99 . . . one new Bratz Rock Angels sleeping bag - $29.99 . . . cost for the sleepover including dinner, (see details below) - $25.00. Carroll felt the first sleepover deserved the special treatment, despite the fact that she is desperately hoping Jessica will call and come home early. While Jessica is frolicking around the playground eating cookies and watching late movies, Carroll is home eating excessive girl scout cookies and waiting for the phone to ring.

Changed and Ready . . .

Jessica rejoices over her new trendy sleeping bag.

Flannel Jim Jams and Collagen Lips

I am not even very keen on this shot of Jessica, but just cannot resist the incredible beauty of the Bratz Rock Angel.

Who Can Pass Up Canned Spaghetti?

OK, maybe it isn't canned, but bulk spaghetti and baked chicken legs are soooo appetizing. Somehow Carroll cleverly planned ahead and had a zen early dinner at Chado before returning to school.

The Standard Princess Tent

The first graders are allowed to sleep outdoors and the tent selection varies from dad's fishing tents to special order Princess tents with matching princess sleeping bags.

The Princess Tent DE-LUX!!!

It is obvious that the Nash family will have to step things up a notch next year when Jessica is allowed to sleep outside in the school yard.

Florida 'Holiday' Photos

Here are a few pics from holiday. I think it is obvious who has become accustomed to Mom having a camera 24/7. It's almost impossible to get any candid shots of Lady J and I think she is ready for America's Next Top Mini Model. And I don't even ask her to pose . . . this was the result of "Hey Jessica, turn around so I can see your new swimsuit."

God help us when she's a teenager.

Mom and Lady J Swap Face Painting

Jessica cannot resist a paintbrush, so Mom volunteers and the two ladies swap paint jobs during a round of glow-in-the-dark golf. The shot without the flash is blurry due to lack of a tripod and a giggling Jessica. And no, that is not a unibrow on Carroll's forehead, just a sassy set of kitten ears.

Team Nash Looking Good

The Nash family travels in a no-sunburn zone - but damn don't we look sharp?

Who's Your Daddy?

Despite appearances, I did not wet my pants in my extended fight with this fearsome creature from the deep. Despite Adrian, Jessica and Nick all having a go, it was my own superior fishing skill, and sheer determination, that finally won the day.

Can We Ever Get Enough?

Of Jessica Holding Lucy, and Lucy Looking Completely Uninterested.

Goose Prepares for Ferris Bueller II - The Revenge

LET ME HOLD GOOSE!!!

Lucy is not too sure about the tight squeeze Jessica has around her middle.
