Graduation from Elementary - Middle School Ahead!
With 5th grade coming to a close, Jessica is now gearing up for Middle School next year. Her class had their Candle Lighting Ceremony (graduation) and it was really beautifully done.
School Co-Ed Soccer Team 2012
This year the school team for the 5th grade soccer season was co-ed. Neither the girls nor the boys were particularly keen on the idea, but in the end they all did a great job. The season was a huge success.
Track Meet 2012
The 5th grade track meet was another great day this year. Jess had a great time running the 50, the 100 and the 440 relay. Unfortunately Jess has inherited her mother's knees so will be dealing with knee 'issues' for the next few years.

Spring Has Sprung Too Early

We need to check our previous dates, but the very mild winter, and recent hot weather, sent all our birds into nest-building mode. Mid-march has several nests on our property including a hummingbird nest right outside our front door. Sadly a recent storm soaked the nest and we're worried the cold temperatures might mean the eggs don't make it. Mom hummer is still hanging tough on the nest and only time will tell.

Jessica's Big Television Break (Not)
Not Jessica's big television launch, but very fun that all the girls in the 5th grade class were invited to participate in a commercial for an electric company that is owned by the family of a classmate. (That sounds like a serious run-on sentence.)
Lucas Laughs in the Face of Danger
Even at only three months old, Lucas has figured out that PJ isn't really all that scary.

State Fair 2011

So the 5th grade first semester project is the State Fair. Every student gets a state and 'we' then learn everything you could possibly imagine about that state. Jess was assigned West Virginia and had to make a scrapbook and banner, write a report, plan an Enrichment piece, and then present all the information to the rest of the school in a half-day-long extravaganza. It was really fun and Jess - dressed as an apple farmer - passed out cups of apple juice while she taught the other kids about her state. (State fruit of West Viriginia - the Golden Delicious Apple). It was quite a success, but a LOT of work. Next semester . . . science fair.
